Starting from December 2, 2024, drivers who move to live in Manitoba (Canada) from European Union countries will be able to easily obtain a driver’s license from the province. They will be able to exchange their foreign driver’s license for one from Manitoba. The province has determined that the rules for issuing driver’s licenses in the EU are the same as in Manitoba, so a simpler procedure for issuing licenses for cars and motorcycles has been introduced.

Exchanging a Driver's Licence from a Reciprocal Country

If you hold a valid driver’s licence from a reciprocal country, you can exchange it for an equivalent Manitoba licence without taking a knowledge or road test.

To Apply:

  1. Visit an Autopac agent or MPI Service Centre with:

    • Required ID

    • Your current driver’s licence

    • $65 licence fee

  2. If your licence is not in English or French, you will need to have it translated.

You must surrender your original out-of-country licence. A temporary Manitoba licence will be issued for up to 45 days while your photo licence is processed.

If your licence is not authentic or if you have multiple licences, further steps may be required, including completing the GDL program. Copies and duplicates will not be accepted.
